The Thirteenth Floor is a great movie about Virtual Reality. After I read Thomas Campbell’s book My Big TOE I got interested in movies about Virtual Reality. The Thirteenth Floor is featured in Stephen Simon’s book, The Force is with you, about inspiring spiritual movies.
On the thirteenth floor of a corporate tower, high-tech visionary Douglas Hall (Craig Bierko, The Long Kiss Goodnight) and his high-strung colleague, Whitney (Vincent D’Onofrio, Men In Black), have opened the door to an amazing virtual world – circa 1937 Los Angeles. We travel along with the characters as they go in and out of the virtual 1937 world they have created. There is a Murder, a mystery woman, and some “who am I” questions to be answered.
This movie has a murder mystery plot using virtual reality as a way to have characters move between virtual and real. A question I pondered whilst watching this movie is “if someone is Killed in a Virtual Reality by a Player from the reality that created the Virtual Reality, did that Player commit a murder?”
